Full product rundown

Practical guidance for storage, rigging and fishing this bait around Perth and wider WA waters.

Freezing and storage

Keep frozen at -18°C or below. Thaw only what you need for one session in the fridge or cool esky — never refreeze thawed worms.

Rigs and jigs

Light running-sinker or paternoster rig on a long trace. Keep the bait moving naturally with tide rather than pinning it dead still in heavy current.

Hook and jig sizes

Long-shank hooks #6–#2 for whiting; slightly larger #2–1/0 for bream and flathead. Use fine leader 4–8 lb in clear water.

Bait prep and handling

Thread one or two worms along the shank leaving the tail free to wriggle. Handle with dry hands where possible to keep bait firm on the hook.

Best conditions

Calm to light breeze, rising or falling tide on sand flats and estuary edges. Dawn and dusk sessions are prime.

Where to use in Perth

Estuary edges and flats across WA — Swan–Canning system, South West estuaries like the Kalgan and Wilson Inlet, and sheltered inshore water.

Best target species

Whiting, Bream, Flathead, Flounder, Cobbler

How to fish this bait

Long-shank hook, minimal weight, let bait drift with current along edges.

Seasonality and local conditions

Consistent most of the year; excellent on calm winter mornings.
